Stradbally, literally meaning "Street Town", is a pretty village whose local community continues to improve its appearance. It's a regular contender in the Tidy Towns competition, and its main street is lined with brightly painted cottages decorated with colourful window boxes. Stradbally is home to a Steam Museum and the annual Stradbally Steam Rally, held every August bank holiday weekend. Near to Ballintubbert village stands Ballintubert Glebe, birthplace of the poet laureate, Cecil Day Lewis. In Timogue you'll find an impressive church dating from around 1736. Nearby there are two ring forts, a ruined mill and the site of a ruined tower house.
