Visitors are always welcome and encouraged to participate in our prayers, worship & parish activity A majority of towns and villages in the United Dioceses have an Anglican church. Many of our ancient religious sites were established by the Irish Celtic Saints such as Carthage, Edan and Canice and they testify to a deeply rooted Christian history and witness, inspiring our vision for the good work of enabling others to walk in pilgrimage with Jesus Christ. The pattern of Sunday worship varies and may be Eucharist (Holy Communion), Morning Prayer or a family Service of the Word. Visitors are very welcome to our worship which is offered in the name of the Holy Trinity. It is our custom to extend an invitation to receive Holy Communion to all those who are regular communicant members within their own Christian community.
The Diocesan Community of around 14 000 people are served by a diverse group of approximately 45 full time clergy and auxiliaries. There is a guild of some 20 Diocesan Lay readers and many parishes have parish readers who operate within their local church. Additionally the Diocese employs a Youth Officer, secretary and accountant. The main Diocesan Office is situated in the library of St. Canice's Cathedral, Kilkenny and there is a separate office for the Diocese of Ferns. There is now one Con-joint Diocesan Synods which meets once a year to decide Diocesan business. Respective councils meet at various times during the year to direct diocesan affairs. Parishes have Select Vestries which look after fabric, furnishing and finance. There are many types of parish organization ranging from the Mothers Union, Badminton and sports societies, prayer and study groups. Many churches cater extensively for the youth through uniformed organizations such as the Girls Friendly Society, Boys Brigade or parish Youth clubs. You can find out about our organizations on this web site.
